Avalon Malibu Treatment Facility Proudly Announces Accreditation From The Joint Commission and Two New Appointments


Avalon Malibu is pleased to announce The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with their national standards for health care quality and safety in behavioral health care.


Avalon Malibu has proven its commitment to the highest level of care for the people we serve, and with Joint Commission accreditation, our organization has made a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis.


The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 20,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, including more than 10,600 hospitals and home care organizations, and more than 6,600 other health 

Care organizations that provide long-term care, behavioral health care, laboratory and ambulatory care services. Avalon Malibu is honored to be included in these numbers.


Additionally, Avalon Malibu is proud to announce the appointments of Dr. Hillary Berens, Clinical Director Avalon Malibu and SallyAnn Cross LCSW, Program Director Avalon Malibu Intensive Outpatient Program. Both bring decades of clinical experience to the dedicated team of professionals at Avalon Malibu.


Dr. Hillary Berens is the Clinical Director of Avalon Malibu. She has her doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. An active member of the Malibu treatment center community for over a decade, she is responsible for the creation and implementation of several successful addiction recovery strategies. She is a recent graduate of UCLA’s Problem Gambling Studies Program. She specializes in addiction co-occurring with numerous mental health disorders. A published author, her article “Nesting on A Slippery Slope,” addressed the effects of alcoholism on law enforcement officers for Star and Shield Magazine in August 2010.


SallyAnn Cross holds both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Masters Degree in Multicultural Counseling with over 20 years of experience in Addiction Medicine and Mental Health field. Her qualifications include both an extensive background as a Clinical Supervisor and Practitioner in both the public and private sector.  Additionally, SallyAnn has vast experience in working with a multitude of populations suffering from, Addictive Disorders, Co-occurring Disorders, Behavioral Disorders, Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Asperger Syndrome, HIV and AIDS, Personality Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders, Anxiety and Depressive Disorders. SallyAnn is also noted for the development of several creative and innovative programs with a primary focus on enhancing the client care experience.


Avalon Malibu is licensed to treat Substance Use Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Trauma, and Personality Disorders. Avalon Malibu is a center where respect, safety, compassion, and hospitality are extended to all who seek health, healing, and hope.
